This triathlon training camp is based in the south of Gran Canaria in small relaxed coastal resort. You will stay in luxury at our partner 4* hotel which is surrounded by perfect flat bays for open water swimming, miles of flat canyon and mountain trail running routes and some of the best road cycling routes in Europe. The south of Gran Canaria is the choice of many pro cyclist teams winter training camps for its all year round sun and warm weather in the winter, incredible smooth roads and immense routes with volcanic mountain ranges that peak at nearly 2000 meters above the sea level. 

Your coach and lead guide Tom Higgins will tailor this camp to your exact level and there will be lots of personalised 1-1 coaching throughout whilst at the same time you will be enjoying training and seeing the impress landscape and surroundings of Gran Canaria!

Who is the camp for?

This camp is for all abilities. From those looking to build some serious fitness over the winter months in a warmer climate to those looking to just enjoy triathlon training in a safe and incredible environment whilst meeting and making like minded friends. Tom will ensure that each session is suitably adapted to your level and you will always be with a group and guide on the rides and runs, no one will be left behind. On the other side those wanting to really push themselves and get the most training effect from the camp will have the means and support to do so.

What training to expect?

Swimming
-Guided open water sea swimming sessions in ideal flat locations, including in sheltered natural sea pools. 
-Outdoor training pool session with in depth technique sessions with optional video analysis.

Cycling 
-Group guided and coached rides. Each ride has two routes, the full route and an optional turn off point making an easier route. As well as Tom leading the rides, if required an extra experience bike guide will be on hand so one gets left behind. You will experience cycling some of the most beautiful and safe roads in Europe through amazing scenery. Routes will include valleys, canyons, volcanic mountain climbs to spectacular ridges, rolling coastal routes and more.

Running
-Trail running around canyons and coastal routes with flat and optional hilly routes.  There is also an indoor private gym with a treadmill if anyone struggles with running outdoors. 

Strength and conditioning
-In depth strength and conditioning workshop, learning the most important aspects of staying injury free and building functional strength ready for your goals. This workshop will be low stress and more educational based. There will also be regular recovery routines throughout the camp including foam rollering, regular stretching and optional sports massages.  

Relaxation and downtime
-Enjoy your 4* resorts spa facilities, outdoor relaxation swimming pools and jacuzzis overlooking the sea.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Arrival day, meet and greet.

DAY 2
Meet and greet for late night arrivals and official camp meeting.
Swim:  Guided open water swim along the calm bay outside the hotel. 1km-2.5km. 
Bike: Epic canyon route to a lake then a climb up to a ridge with spectacular views of mountains and sand dunes, easier route option misses the climb to the ridge and turns back.
Full route 46km, 720m of climbing
Easier route 43 km, 520m climbing
Optional brick run:  10-25mins brick trail run just outside the hotel on a canyon a desert loop.

DAY 3
Swim: Outdoor training pool swim with in depth technique analysis 30min-1hr session.
Bike: A rolling coastal ride into impressive valley flats. 
Full ride 63km, 640m climbing.
Shorter route - 40km, 450m climbing.

DAY 4
Bike: Longer ride into the mountains, up to two big peaks and along ridges. Easier route just climbs up to one peak and turns back. 
Full route 70km, 1320 m climbing.
Easier route - 50km, 660m climbing
optional brick run 10-30 mins, trail run on the desert loop with an optional short climb up to a lake.  

DAY 5  
Recovery day/ easier day. Foam rolling workshop first thing.
Bike and Sea Pools optional easy spin to the sheltered sea pools. There we will have a relaxed 10-25 mins refreshing swim in the beautiful sheltered sea pools and then spin back. Total ride 17km and flat. 

DAY 6
Strength and conditioning: workshop covering essential upper body, lower body and core exercises, looking at the correct technique and looking at injury prevention work.
Run: longer trail run along the coast up totalling roughly 10-13 km for the longer session, shorter option of 5-10km.

DAY 7
Swim:  open water swim in the flat calm bay just outside the hotel, this will be between 1km-3km swim. 
Bikelong rolling coastal ride with possible extension for some extra mileage if anyone wants. The shorter route is an optional turnaround at an earlier coastal town.
Full ride 73km, 1030 meters climbing.
Easier ride 54km, 660 meters climbing.

DAY 8
Departure

(Note, the itinerary above is provided as a guide and is subject to change if required)

-7 nights accommodation at our partner 4* hotel. 
-Half board breakfast and evening meals throughout your stay.
-Safe bike storage in your room
-1 week of triathlon coaching and guidance on routes.
-Access to the best bike hire, road and electric roads bikes available. (Bike hire cost is not included but bike hire can be arranged if required prior to your arrival so your bike is ready and waiting for you to use at your hotel)

1x athlete - private room £1083 GBP

1x athlete - sharing* £882 GBP

Non training guests such as partners, children and friends are welcomed. Please email contact@hybridendurance.com for prices as this will be less than the athlete prices listed above.

*For those who are ok with sharing with others we will endeavour to put you in a sharing room, if the number of athletes don't allow this then you will have to pay the cost of the '1 x athlete - private room'.

For those sharing we can try to fit you in the same room as another named athlete or guest on request. Email contact@hybridendurance.com for any further enquiries. 

 

Payment, cancellations and refunds.

A deposit of 35% of the total price is required to book and secure your place on the camp, the remaining 65% balance must be paid before 6 weeks out from the start date of the camp. If you don't pay the remaining balance in full before 6 weeks out you will loose your place on the camp and your 35% deposit.  

If you cancel before 14 days after paying your deposit you will get a full refund of your deposit back. After 14 days of paying your deposit if you then decide to cancel before the start of the camp only those who have paid the total amount in full will receive any money back and that money will only be the deposit amount of 35% and not the remaining 65%. Those who have not paid the total amount in full and cancel after the 14 days of paying the deposit will not receive any money back. 

The above terms apply to booking 6 weeks and more out from the camp. Any late booking less than 6 weeks out from the start date of the camp the full amount will be payable immediately to book your place on camp. You will still be entitled to a 35% refundable amount of the total price should you cancel before the camp date if you have paid the full amount. 

Payment of the deposit is made by purchasing this camp above, select the date and room type and purchase through our store which securely processes your payment through Paypal. The remaining balance will then be payable by transfer either to our Paypal account or our bank account. Details of these will be provided after placing your deposit. 

Travel insurance - You must obtain sufficient travel insurance to cover your travel and the all of the activities provided on this camp. This is a condition of booking that you purchase insurance and you will have to provide evidence of this before you can start the camp.

  • 4x Ironman Triathlete, completing his first one aged 19.

  • British Schools Biathlon Champion, x2 times.
